Target group: Under Graduate Students, Union Christian College, Aluva

Learning yoga starts with learning its philosophy. Yoga philosophy is entirely distinct from western philosophy. Its purpose is not mindless questioning, but to deepen our observations of our own experience, ultimately leading us to make better decisions in life that support our health and happiness. The goal of studying yoga philosophy is to develop clarity in our minds about what we are doing here and why.

Objectives of the Course

  1. To provide an awareness about the scientific basis and benefits of Yoga.
  2. To provide a perfect knowledge about yoga and how to perform asanas
  3. To introduce the fundamentals of Health & Physical Fitness
  4. To enable the students to lead a healthy lifestyle through Yoga

The course consists of 10 hours theory and 20-hourpractical.

Syllabus 

Chapter -1

Yoga its origin, Meaning and definition, Need and importance of Yoga in the modern society. Eight limbs of Yoga.

Chapter – 2

Health – Dimensions of Health, Major Systems in Human Body.

Effects of yoga on body systems.

Guidelines for traditional Yoga practice.

Chapter – 3

Yogaasana – Classification of Yogasana Postures and their benefits, warming up exercises and relaxing asanas postures. Introduction to pranayama.

Chapter- 4

Standing Postures –Ardhakatichakrasana, Trikonasana, ParivrttaTrikonasana, Ardhacakrasana, Padahastasana

Sitting Postures – Vajrasana, Sasankasana, Suptavajrasana, Pascimatanasana, Ustrasana, Padmasana, Vakrasana, Ardhamatsyendrasana

Chapter -5

Lying posture – Prone Postures and supine postures

Bhujangasana, Salabhasana, Dhanurasana, Sarvangasana, Matsyasana, Halasana, Chakrasana, Viparitakarani

Suryanamaskar and its benefits

Action plan:

Duration: 30 hrs (10 hrs theory and 20 hrs practicals)

3 months (2 hours/week- Online /Offline (3:30-4:30pm)

Maximum Strength:30 students

Classes by: Faculty, Department of Physical Education

Course Structure: Theory and Practicals as per the syllabus

Scheme of Examination: Total Marks 100

 

 

 

 

 

 

*75% Attendance is mandatory

Written  and Practical  Exam will be conducted based on the syllabus

CERTIFICATION:

A certificate of the course will be awarded to all those who have successfully completed the theory as well as practical activity in all courses.
