DEPARTMENT  ACHIEVEMENTS(YEAR WISE)

Sports Report (2022-23)

The Department of Physical Education has brought many laurels to the college by winning medals at National, All India Inter university, State and M.G University level for various sports and games. 64 students got selected to MG University various teams for representing university in the various All India championships. 17 students represented Kerala State in the various Junior and Senior National Championship. The College emerged Second position in the MGU Best Sports Performing College for the academic year 2021-22.

INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

Ms.Ajanya.T.P and Ms.Aleena Surendaran selected to represent India in the Asia Cup Baseball Championship to be held at HONG KONG from 21st May to 2ND June 2023.

Magic Book of Award

 

Replica of FIFA World Cup created by the department of Physical Education, Union Christian College, Aluva in Connection with Magic Book of record – World Record 2022 the Centenary Vista, Mega exhibition received the Biggest Concrete replica of FIFA WORLD CUP on 10th December 2022 award.

Sports Academies

 To develop and nurture young talented sports person in Cricket, Netball and Archery three academies were inaugurated and is going good. It is started as part of community extension programme of Physical Education Department.

Infrastructure

 Renovated C.P.Andrews Stadium with Basketball and Lawn Tennis Court and was inaugurated on 11th November 2022.

Newly built fully equipped Gymnasium was opened on 3rd March 2023. Both ends of Hockey field has been fenced.

 Archery  Academy

 The blessing ceremony of the newly launched Archery Academy was held on 14th July 2022 at 4.15 PM in the newly developed archery area near the MCA block. The academy functions in association with GX Archery academy.

GCDA SPORTS MASTER PLAN

  GCDA Sports Master plan will be prepared with the support of Physical Education Department of UC College, Aluva. Students pursuing Bachelor of Sports Management programme will be part of the team preparing the master plan.The serious discussions and workshops had started in the month of January 2023 onwards.The GCDA and UC College,Aluva signed MOU on April 27TH 2023.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

Department organized first Sports Alumni meet on 7th May 2022.The Chief guests for this Alumni meet was Dr (Prof).E.J.Jacob, Olympian T.C.Yohanan and Dronacharya P.A.Rafael.

Department organized International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2022 in connection with world yoga Day Celebration in association with NCC and NSS unit of Union Christian College,Aluva. 300 students participated in this program.

Department organized All India level Union Christian College Centenary Half and Mini Marthon on 8th October 2022. Around 800 athletes participated in the run. The Chief guests for this Centenary Marthon run was Padmashree Shiny Wilson, Shri.Wilson Cherian and Shri Rishiraj Singh.The Centenary  Marathon logo was released by Shri.Vivek Kumar,IPS (Superintendent of Police,Aluva) on 19th September 2022 at 2.30 PM.

The department organized the MG University Women Hockey Championship on 17th and 18th October 2022 in association with MG University, Kottayam.

The department organized the MG University Women Hockey Championship on 29th and 30th October 2022 in association with MG University, Kottayam.

In connection with Centenary Mega exhibition from 7th to 12th November 2022 the department of Physical Education along with Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education has put up a stall.

Department of Physical Education organized International Society for the advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) International Accreditation course – Level – 1, from 14-16 November 2022.The course was attended by various professionals from different parts of the country.

Department organized National Sports Day on 29th August 2022 with slogan “Let’s Unite for Sports”. In connection with this we organised following events;

The department of Physical Education organized an expert talk on Brand Management in Sports on 2nd

December 2022 by Jacob Mathew, Head of Communication, Penna Cement Industries LTD.

The department organized 99th Annual Athletic meet of Union Christian College on 1st February 2023.

The department organised first of a kind HAYYA UCC Premier league.The teams for the tournament were selected through the auction format,which was held on 19th December 2022.

The department of Physical Education Organized 44th Union Christian College South India Inter Collegiate Basketball tournament for men and women from 7th TO 10th March 2023.The tournament was inaugurated by Shri.Eudrick Pereira, Indian International Basketball player. In Men section Jain University, Bangalore and SB College Changannasseri bagged first and second position .In Women section MOP, Vaisnav College and Jain University Bangalore bagged first and second position. The chief guest for the closing function was Mr.Rosmin Thomas,Associate Vice President and Branch head, Federal Bank.

The department of Physical Education Organized 26th Dr.A.K.Baby Memorial South India Inter Collegiate Basketball Hockey tournament for men and women from 8th to 10th March 2023.The tournament was inaugurated by Shri.Biji George.T,Addl.Superintendent of Police,Aluva. In Men section Christ College, Irinjalakuda and UC College Aluva bagged first and second position .In Women section Marthoma College,Tiruvalla and Jain University UC College, Aluva bagged first and second position.The chief guest for the closing function was Mr.Soji.T.C, General Secretary, Hockey Kerala .

The UC College was the venue for the mini, Sub junior, junior and senior boys and girls Ernakulam District Netball Championship.

                           OPEN INVITATION TOURNAMENTS RESULTS

UC College Men and Women  Hockey team emerged champions in the first Razi Memorial Ever Rolling trophy held organized by Cochin Hockey Academy on 6th October 2022.

 

UC College Men Hockey team emerged champions in the first Vishnu Memorial Hockey tournament on 28th January 2023.

UC College Men Hockey team emerged champions in the first T.K Lakshmanan Memorial All Kerala 11’s Hockey tournament on 19th November 2022 at Kozhikode. Sibin Balakrishnan received Best Player award and Shehin KA received Best Goal Keeper award.

Mr.Abhinav.E.K (III BSM) got internship as Data Journalist in Sportradar Multinational Corporation with headquarters in St.Gallen,Switzerland.

Mr.Nakul.S (BSM Final year) and Ms.Reetha Sabu (BSc Psychology Final Year)successfully completed 6 week certificate course of All India B Grade level coaching certificate in Roll ball from NSNIS,Patiallia in the month of January 2023.3.

Mr.Nakul.S (BSM Final year) was the technical official and Mr.Nardhil.M.R (BSM Final year) was the member of the organizing committee for the Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharath Rollball Championship Goa from January 2023.

Mr.Nakul.S (BSM Final year) was the technical official for the Senior National Rollball Championship held at Jammu from 13th to 16th February 2023 and also the technical official for All India Inter University Women Rollball championship held at Karpagam Academy of Higher Education,Coimbatore from 3rd to 6th March 2023.

Mr.Muhammed Hafiz,Safar.C.J,Nehadil.K.S,Revathy,Akshay.K.B and Nandhana.A qualified the Netball State Referees Examination Level 1 organised by Kerala Netball Association on 6th and 7th August 2022.

Ms.Sunitha.A.S, Jithu Rose John, Anjana.Vand Neelima qualified the Netball State Referees Examination Level 1 organised by Kerala Netball Association on 24th July 2022.

Mr.Shahal.K.A (II BA English) was the technical official of Junior State Girls and Boys Hockey Championship held at Thrissur from 16th to 19th February 2023.

24 students of BSM was the volunteers for organizing Legend Mardona cup 2022-23 from 27th december 2022 to 9th January 2023 by the Saccon Football Academy.

BSM Students were the volunteers for the All Kerala Mini Marathon,Kallammassery organized by Shri.P.Rajeev,Minister for on 23rd October 2022 with a slogan “Youth against drugs”.

Ms.Prasanna.S (II BSM) and Rijo Shaji (II BSM) received best player and best mid fielder award in the 8th Kerala State Junior Hockey Championship held at Thrissur from 16th to 18th February 2023.

Sibin Balakrishnan (BSM First Year) receives the man of the match award in the match against Tripura at the 12th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2022 Kovilpatti, TN from 17 – 29 May.

Mr. Sibin Balakrishnan (BSM 2nd yr) student was appreciated by former Olympian Field Hockey player Vikram Kanth for his extra ordinary performance in the Coaches Cup 5A side Hockey tournament organized in memory of Hockey Coach Manohar Katke by Hockey Karnataka. He received a cash prize of Rs. 3000/.

SPORTS REPORT ( 2019 – 20 )

For the year 2019-20, 54 students represented M.G University in the various All India Inter University championship and 19 students represented Kerala state in the various national championship. Union Christian College secured second position in the Best Sports performing colleges under M.G.University for the academic year 2019-20 with a record point of 314 for the first time in UCIAN history.

98th U.C COLLEGE ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET

98th  College Annual Athletic Meet is an important event in the student’s life. The College Sports day 2019-20was conducted on 24th, 25th  & 26th  February 2020. The ground looked colorful with march-past by 14 different departments; the dignitaries took the salute from march-past, which was followed by oath taking ceremony by athletes .The chief guest for the opening cerermongy was college Principal Dr.David Saj mathewand closing function was Smt.Suma Mary Skariah,Associate Professor,Department of English.The three day sports meet involved the enthusiastic participation of all the students’ .The overall rolling shield was bagged by the Economics department. The championship in men section bagged by department of History and in Women section by Economics department.The winners of the various events and March past were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.

Saranya Sreekala Nair of I BSc Psychology represented Kerala State in the Under-23 National Fencing championship and secured Gold in the Foil team event and she also secured bronze medal in Epee team event  in the All India Inter University Fencing Championship held Amritsar from 21st to 24th January 2017.

Sefy George of III BA Economics represented Kerala State in the 34th Senior National Netball Championship held at Delhi from 31st December to 3rd January 2017 and won bronze medal.

Roshan.T.S (I BA English) won gold medal in the 50mts and 100mts Breast Stroke and Jiya Joseph (I MSc Psychology) secured bronze medal in 50mts Breast stroke in the MG University Aquatics championship for the academic year 2016-17.

Organised 43rd Union Christian College Basketball tournament on 4th and 5th September 2015. In the men section Mar Baselious Eng.College (winners), Mar Ivanios,Trivandrum (runner up) and in women section St.Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda emerged as winners and  St.Xaviers,Aluva secured second position

The BA Malayalam 2011-14 batch instituted Ajas memorial ever rolling trophy in memory of their friend Ajas.C.A for team who wins overall championship in College Annual Athletic meet.

SPORTS REPORT 2014-15

The year 2014-15 saw a rich crop of trophies and shields being harvested by our players and athletes. The UCC won 6 Trophies, contributed 54 players to the University 11 players represented Kerala state in the various national championships.  The strong presence of UCC in the Kerala contingent has made a big difference in the recently concluded National Games at Kerala. 5 of our players represented the Kerala state in this national Olympiad. Our college secured 5th position in the Best sports performing college under MG University Kottayam for the academic year 2013-14 with 180 points.

Josemon.P.P, Sam Mathew and Maryn P. Jose representing Kerala state team in the 35th National games secured Bronze medal. Josemon was the vice captain of the Kerala team. Josemon.P.P Secured Brone medal in the Senior National championship held at from 26th to 29th March 2015,New Delhi, in which he was the captain of the Kerala team.

Aquatics

UC College women Aquatic team secured second position in the MG University inter collegiate women Aquatics championship held at Pirappancode Swimming Pool, Trivandrum on 28th and 29th August 2014.Jiya Joseph has been selected to represent MG University in the All India Inter University championship.

Hockey

UC College men and women hockey team secured first position in the MG University Hockey championship.Pratheesha.K, AmruthaSanthosh,.Mrudhularaj,Vyshnavi.T.Radhakrishnan,,Sindhu.M.R

.Maya.V.C,Bijina.V&.Joshni.P.M represented MG University in the South Zone All India Inter University championship and secured fourth position.

In the Boys section Sanusam, MuhammedRishad, Aiju.PAndrews, Shyamkumar.S,Davood Aboobecker, Maneesh.M,.Prasoon.S and Swalih.K represented MG University in the South Zone All India Inter Unversity Hockey  championship.

Baseball

UC College men Baseball team secured first position in the MG University intercollegiate softball tournament held at MGU, Kottayam on 3rd and 4th March 2015.In men section Anoop.T.S, Shyam Mohanan, Abhilash Subran,Amal.A.P  Harilal.T and in women section Krishna.CC and Shilpa Catheriene  selected to the MG University team.

Fencing

UC College women Fencing team secured second position in the MG University women fencing championship held at Assumption College, Changannassery on 21st March 2015.Binususan Paul,Cinta Varghese,Linny mary Jacob,Anagha.P.S and Rose Roy were selected to the MG University team.

Judo

Our College women team secured second position and men team secured third position in the MG University Judo championship held at UC College,Aluva on 24th February 2015.Binususan Paul selected to the MG University women Judo team.

Netball

UC College men team secured first and women team secured third position in the MG University Net ball championship held at Assumpion College Changanasserry on 20th   February 2015.In women section Shefi George and Gayathri were selected to the MG University.

In men section Josemon.P.P, Sam Mathew,Kevin Jose,Sarath.P.R and Freddin participated in the All India Inter University Netball  championship.

 

Softball

UC College men Softball team secured first position and women team secured third position in the MG University intercollegiate softball tournament held at MGU, Kottayam on 22nd and 23rd January 2015. In men section Diljith.M.D,Arun.C.D,Arjun Ram,Unni.P.R,Akhilraj  and in women section Krishna.CC Shilpa Catheriene,Meenu Jose are selected to the MG University team.

Water polo

Our college Water polo Men team secured first position in the MG University inter collegiate water polo competition held at Pirappancode Swimming Pool,Trivandrum on 28th and  29th August 2014.

Saleesh.E.S, Aravind.C.Velayudhan, Skanda  Kumar,Abijith.P.U,Vishnunandhagopal,Jiffinvakkachan  and  Akhilchandran were selected to represent MG University in the All India Inter University Water polo championship.

Football

Our College women Football team secured fourth position in the MGUniversity women Football championship.Bijina.V selected to the MGUniverity team.

Tournament organized

Annual Sports Day is an important event in the student’s life. The College Sports day 2014 was conducted on 25,26th & 27th of February 2015. The sports day began enthusiastically with a welcome speech. The event was followed by flag hoisting by our beloved Principal who declared the sports meet open. The ground looked colorful with march-past by 12 different departments; the dignitaries took the salute from march-past a student, which was followed by oath taking ceremony by athletes. To enliven the sports event, the Olympic torch was taken up by the students. The three day sports meet involved the enthusiastic participation of all the students’ .The overall rolling shield was bagged by the Economics department. The winners of the various events and March past were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.

Inter department games were organized in Football, Cricket, Basketball, Chess and Shuttle Badminton in men section.

The department of Physical education is organizing two extension activities for the nearby community from 2013 onwards and it is still continuing in excellent manner. In association with College women Cell a programme for Self defense training for women students of the College in Karate is also ongoing from the year 2014 onwards.

The College is the venue for the selection trails of Kerala state team for the 35th National Games in Netball and Hockey for MEN and Women.

The department of Physical Education organized following sports and Games championship and camps during the year 2014-15;

The department also organized three day National conference on Health and Lifestyle from 5th to 7th March 2015.

Trophies instituted

The BA Malayalam 2011-14 batch instituted Ajas memorial ever rolling trophy in memory of their friend Ajas.C.A for team who wins first position in inter department cricket tournament from the academic year 2014-15.

 SPORTS AND GAMES REPORT 2013-14

Total 54 students were selected to represent MG University in the various All India Inter Varsity tournaments for the academic year 2013-14 and 27 students represented Kerala State in the various national championships. Our College secured fourth position in the MG University best sports performing college for the academic year 2012-13.

Vishnu.T.C representing kerala state in the senior south Zone Softball championship held at Anathapur,AP  secured second position and also participated in the senior and federation national softball championship held at West Bengal and Bangalore in the year 2013.

Aswathy.M.R representing kerala state in the senior south Zone Softball championship held at Anathapur,AP  secured first position and also secured second position  in the senior national softball championship held at West Bengal ,December 25-31,2013.

Anoop.T.S, Jacob Thomas, Maryn P Jose, Arun .C.D, Nowshad.K and Krishna.C.C represented Kerala State and participated in the Senior National Baseball championship held at Solapur MAHARASTRA from 27th November to 3rd December – 2013.

Rehma.K.V,Sinisha.T,SmruthiPrabhakaran.M.K,Sirajunnisa.T.K,Rimisha.M.P and  Shylajababu

participated in the Women’s National Hockey  championship held at Andhra Pradesh from 25th January to 31st January – 2013.

Aiju Andrews,Davood Aboobecker and Shyam Kumar participated in the Senior National Hockey championship held at Lucknowl  from 27th February to 4th  March – 2014.

Josemon.P.P,Sam Mathew,Harikrishnan.S and Maryn P Jose participated in the Senior National Netball championship held at Patna,Bihar from 1st to 4th March  – 2014.

Amrutha Santhosh,Sindhu.M.R,Mridhularaj,Pratheesha.K and Vysnavi Radhakrishnan participated in the Junior National Hockey championship held at Mysore  from 7th to 17th March  – 2014 secured second position.

Aiju Andrews and Ijaz Ahmed were selected to the Kerala state Junior Hockey Team to participate in the forth coming junior national competition at Chennai from 24th to 31st March 2014.

TOURNAMENT ORGANISED

UC organized 22nd Dr.A.K.Baby Memorial South Zone Hockey tournament from 17th to 19th Feburary 2014.Total 11 teams in men section and two teams in women section were participated. The tournament was inaugurated by Prof.Aleyamma Itty, former.HOD-Physical Education,UC College and Prizes were given away by Shri.M.M.Abdul Rahiman,Vice President-KSSC.In the men section LNCPE,Trivandrum (winners), Union Christian College (runner up) and in women section UC College emerged winners and  St.Marys College,Thrissur  secured second position.

Organised 42nd  Union Christian College Basketball tournament on 10th and 11th Feburary 2014. Total 7 teams in men section and 3 teams in women section were participated. The tournament was inaugurated by Shri.Sunny.P.J,Chairman –Selection Committee –BFI and in the closing function the prizes were given away by  chief guest  Shri.Satheesh Bino.IPS .In the men section SB College, Changannasserry (winners), Mar Ivanios,Trivandrum (runner up) and in women section St.Xaviers,Aluva emerged as winners and  ProvidenceCollege, Calicut secured second position.

92nd   College Annual Athletic meet were organized from 7th  March 2014. The meet was inaugurated by our Principal Dr.A.Benny Cherian and chief guest for the closing ceremony was Prof.Subhadra.V.K – Department of Physics. Individual champion in the men section was Anas Katilan,Akbar.P.S and Muhammed Shabeer  and in women section Sirajunnisa.T.K.

One of the outstanding achievements of this year was Vineetha George and Revathy Retheesh (I BSc Zoology) representing Kerala State in the Senior National Softball Championship held at Chandigargh placed first position. Athira Anil (II BA Econo) representing MG University in the South West Zone All India Inter Varsity Football championship held at Gwalior.

Sanu Mohan, Siyad.P.S, Jayalal.K.J, Salaj.A.S and Vineetha George, Revathy George, Chithraraj and Ayila Sivan  selected to represent MGU in the All India Inter university Softball tournamentheld at Acharaya.Nagarjuna University, Guntur.

Vineetha George and Revathy George represented Kerala State in the Senior National held at Punjab won the championship.Vineetha George was selected as the best player of the tournament.

Sanhosh.M.T won fourth place in the Junior Nationals Judo Championship held at Bangalore.

UC organized 19th Dr.A.K.Baby Memorial South Zone Hockey tournament from 24th to 26th January 2011.Total 8 teams in men section and three teams in women section were participated.The tournament was inaugurated by Prof.Annie.M.Thomas  In the men section Union Christian College (winners), Tamil Nadu and Jamal Mohammed College Trichy (runner up) and in women section SN College, Kollam emerged (winners) and UC college emerged runners up position..

40th Union Christian College Basketball Tournament organized from 2nd to 4th February, 2011.The tournament was inaugurated Mr.Neeraj George Baby,Bronze Medalist – Israel open Shuttle Badminton championshipfor challenged and chief guest for the closing ceremony was Mr.Rajasundaram,DYSP- Narcotic Cell, Aluva. Total 7 teams in men section and 2teams in women section were participated. In the men section Mar Ivanious, Trivandrum (winners) and SB College Changannassery (Runners up) and in women section Pala Alphonsa College, emerged (winners) and St.Xaviers college, Aluva runners up position.

89th UC College Annual Athletic meet were organized from 31st January &1st Feburary 2011. The meet was inaugurated by our Principal Dr.T.Thomas Philip and chief guest for the closing ceremony was Prof.Leelamma.K.E – Department of Physics. Individual champion in the men section was Tinu Sebastian (3rd BA Economics) and in women section Princiraj (1st BA Mala).

UCC also organized MGU Cricket, Hockey (Men) and Basketball (Men) tournaments.

Runner Up in the MG University women Intercollegiate Football Tournament. Athira Anil was selected to the MG University team in the South West Zone All India Intervarsity Tournament held at Periyar University, Tamil Nadu.

Cricket

Fourth place in the MG University Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament. Midhila Dominic and Nimishya K.H were selected to the MG University Cricket team.

Kabaddi (Men)

Mr. Rahul Raj was selected to the MG University team.

Judo

Our College Judo (Men) team secured the Runner Up position in the MG University Championship. Santhosh M.T and Jackson Antony were selected to represent the MG University team.
Our College Judo (Women) team secured the Third place in the MG University Championship. Kumari Divya Issac was secured Gold Medal in 70Kg category and represented the Kerala State team.

Netball

Our College team secured the First position in the MG University men Championship. Paul John, Ashish Cherian, Krishna Prasad, Maryn P.Jose and Reghu Zachariah were selected in the men section and Pravitha K was selected in the Women section to the MG University team.

16 students of our College represented Ernakulam District Hockey Team and secured the First place in the women’s hockey Championship of the Kerala State.
